okay, i understand that its very detailed with the sex, but come on there are kids my age (16) having sex. get over it. its not like we dont kno whats going on. and in a way it teaches us, because emmy cant support a baby nor can we, and it makes us be more careful with protection and what not.

Whether or not anyone wants to admit it or not, these are trials teens face everyday. Too many of these serious situations go unnoticed everyday and this is a way for us to learn to coope with it! If you don't like it dont read it!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes it's hard for adults to see past sex to the real-life consequences kids face when uninformed. I can understand a parent not wanting their child to read a particular book, I cannot abide that parent or a school board telling me that my child cannot read a particular book. Whether they decide to face the very real statistics of teen pregnancy or not, the opportunity to educate should not be censored by anyone.

In other words, I completely agree with you.

Somebody challenged Detour for Emmy for sexual content? Of course it has sexual content, it's about a girl who gets pregnant! Can't they consider the message of the book? Many teens think of teen pregnancy as a) romantic, or b) a way to keep their boyfriends. As a friend to many girls who have gotten pregnant, I can tell you that it is neither of these. Teen pregnancy is a real problem in the US, and Marilyn Renolds is doing her part to educate teens about the many pitfalls of it.
