2006 BBW; Read Banned Books: They're Your Ticket to Freedom
Everybody can voice their opinion on any topic, that’s the right of living in America. That right includes opinions and beliefs completely opposite of others. Suppressing or banning that right endangers not only the person being silenced, but the foundation of society. Here are ways to for all of us to protect our rights to speak and write:

  • As a teacher, librarian or caregiver you can teach books that have been banned or challenged.
  • Report a book that has been challenged
  • ALA explains how librarians, teachers and caregivers can handle challenges
  • You, too, can fight censorship

“Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could most easily defeat us.”—Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas,” The One Un-American Act.” Nieman Reports, vol. 7, no. 1 (Jan. 1953): p. 20. (from the ALA web site)
